privacy
last updated 26 july 2026
riverling collects nothing about you. there is no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDK of any kind, no account to make, and no email address to hand over. the app contains no code that sends me anything, because i did not write any.
the game keeps your progress on your device. three features involve apple, and none of them involve me.
game center
if you sign in to game center, your score is submitted to the daily leaderboard under whatever nickname game center already knows you by. that is handled entirely by apple, under apple's privacy policy. i never see your apple account. you can play without signing in, and everything works except the leaderboard.
icloud
your progress syncs through your own icloud account, using apple's key-value storage: your daily history, your streak, your best score and best depth, and whether you have finished the tutorial. that is the whole list. your settings are not included, they stay on the device that set them.
it lives in your icloud, not on a server of mine. i have no way to read it. turning off icloud for riverling in your device settings stops the sync, and the game keeps working locally.
weather, and the location it needs
riverling can match the valley's sky to the weather where you actually are. to do that it asks for your approximate location, requested at reduced accuracy, and passes it to apple's weather service to look up current conditions. that lookup means a coarse location leaves your device and goes to apple. it never comes to me, and i receive nothing back from it.
this is optional in every sense. you can refuse the permission, or turn "local weather" off in the game's settings, and riverling plays exactly the same. the only difference is that the sky stops following your own.
weather data provided by Apple Weather.
testflight
while riverling is in beta, apple's testflight shows me crash reports and basic tester counts, and passes along any feedback you choose to send through it. that is testflight's own behaviour, described in apple's testflight privacy notice. if you send feedback, i see what you wrote and the device and OS version it came from.
children
riverling is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, children included.
changes
if this ever stops being true, i will change this page and date it. if a future version of riverling collects anything at all, it will say so here before it ships.
